📖 POWER OF INTERCESSION

Genesis 18:17 – “And the LORD said, ‘Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing?
When God was about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of their great wickedness, He first revealed His plans to Abraham. Upon hearing this, Abraham immediately took his place as an intercessor, pleading with God on behalf of the two cities.
A similar scene unfolds in Exodus 32. While Moses was on Mount Sinai in communion with God, the children of Israel grew impatient. Believing that Moses had delayed in returning, they persuaded Aaron to make a golden calf, which they worshipped and offered sacrifices to as their god. This act of idolatry provoked the anger of God, and He declared His intention to destroy the nation and raise a new one through Moses.
Instead of accepting God’s offer, Moses stood in the gap. He interceded for the people, appealing to God’s mercy, His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and His reputation among the surrounding nations. Because of Moses’ intercession, the Lord relented from the judgment He had declared.
These two accounts vividly demonstrate the significance of the ministry of intercession. An intercessor is more than someone who prays; an intercessor is someone whom God entrusts with His heart and, at times, reveals His intentions before they unfold. This divine privilege enables the intercessor to pray for people who may not even realize they are in danger or in need of God’s intervention.
Perhaps it is time for you to grow beyond being a Christian who only prays for personal needs and become an intercessor for your family, your community, your church, and even your nation. As you draw closer to God, He may reveal burdens, dangers, or spiritual needs before they become visible, giving you the opportunity to stand in the gap through prayer and become an instrument of His mercy.
Never underestimate the power of an intercessor. Many lives have been spared, many destinies preserved, and many judgments averted because someone chose to stand before God on behalf of others.
