LIVING WATERS

John.4.10 – Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who I am, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”
When Jesus went to a banquet hosted by Levi and the other tax collectors, the Pharisees and the other religious leaders complained why He was sitting down to eat with the sinners. Jesus answered and said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick” (Luke 5:31).
Many times, Jesus would use an example of a physical thing found in this world to make it easier for His audience to understand His message. Jesus here is using an example of a physical doctor and a patient to illustrate the reason for His coming into the world. He is simply saying that if there were no sicknesses in this world, there would have been no need to have any doctors. Doctors are there because there are sick people. Similarly, if there was no sin in this world, there would not have been any reason for Him to come on this earth. The Word would not have been made flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14).
In a similar fashion in our Scripture today, Jesus is using the example of the temporary relief that physical water brings to one who is thirsty in comparison to the permanent relief brought by the The Living Waters (The Word of God).
Many of us appear to be well on the surface, but deep down, we have certain habits or characteristics that we have been trying to overcome for a very long time. There are certain things that we fight hard not to repeat, but we end up repeating anyhow. That addiction or that urge to continue to sin even when deep down our heart we do not want to is the thirst that can only be quenched by the Living Waters.
Today, no matter how unworthy or unclean you may feel because of certain things that you may have done, do not run away from God but run to Him. Remember, it is the sick who need a doctor, and it is The Master Doctor Himself called Jesus Christ of Nazareth who has the Living Waters to quench every evil desire in you.
TODAY’S MEDITATION
Mark.2.17 – When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
