📖 GOD FIRST (2)

1Tim.6.10 – For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
This Scripture, together with Matthew 6:24, is arguably one of the most misinterpreted passages in the Bible—often by Christians who use it to justify a lack of diligence and productivity.
This misunderstanding has contributed to a generation of believers who may be spiritually strong yet living far below their potential.
The Bible is not forbidding us, as Christians, from pursuing money or making progress in life. Rather, the Word of God clearly warns us against the love of money—placing it above God in our hearts. This kind of misplaced devotion can lead to:
- Engaging in ungodly activities in the pursuit of wealth, causing us to stray from the faith, and
- Shifting our trust, hope, and dependence from God to material things
As stated earlier, the Bible does not forbid the pursuit of wealth. If it did, it would not speak of men like Abraham and Lot, who were greatly blessed with riches. Their wealth did not fall from heaven—they engaged in productive work under God’s blessing.
As we pursue progress, we are instructed to also “pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” (v11)
As we go out to work, build, and engage in our various projects, in this Year of Projects & Divine Help, let us love God, serve Him faithfully, and guard our hearts against greed and misplaced priorities.
Let God remain first—then let everything else follow in its proper place.
